Artist Profile
Meriem Wakrim
Visual artist and cinematographer from Morocco
Meriem Wakrim, born in Casablanca, Morocco, is a visual artist and cinematographer whose work explores the relationship between inner and outer landscapes, with a particular focus on nature and organic life. Growing up surrounded by the rhythms of the countryside near Casablanca, where she and her family grow organic food, Wakrim’s passion for the living world is reflected in her art. Although she studied film with a focus on image from 2014 to 2019, she has always created images intuitively, never formally learning to draw. For Wakrim, the process of creation is just as important as the final image—it's about exploration, openness, and freedom. Her work seamlessly blends traditional and digital techniques, with her drawings starting on paper, traveling through the digital realm, and returning to paper, creating a cohesive and complementary interplay of dimensions. In her universe, there is no hierarchy between tools; instead, everything converges to evoke emotion and invite viewers into a space of contemplation and discovery.
