Mohsin Taasha

Artist Profile

Mohsin Taasha
Afghan artist trained in Pakistan
Born in Kabul, Afghanistan, Mohsin Taasha is an artist from the Hazara ethnic group whose work is deeply influenced by his cultural heritage and the traumatic experiences of his homeland. Trained in Pakistan, Taasha’s art draws on the millennia-old traditions of ancient Persia, while simultaneously engaging with contemporary themes and expressions. His artistic journey took a profound turn in 2016 after witnessing the devastating suicide attack in Deh Mazang, Kabul, which left an indelible mark on him. The brutal images of destruction and the overwhelming sensory impact of bloodshed and human loss led him to begin "The Rebirth of the Reds," a series of pictorial and performative cycles that explore the emotional and collective scars left by violence. His work embodies the deep wound inflicted on the people of Kabul and reflects a universal need for healing through artistic expression. Taasha's art serves as both a personal catharsis and a means of collective mourning, aiming to transform the anguish of war into a shared, poignant message of resilience and hope for a fractured society.
