Mônica Lóss
Multidisciplinary Brazilian artist
Mônica Lóss is a multidisciplinary Brazilian artist currently based in San Diego, CA, USA. She holds a Ph.D. in Arts and Education from the University of Barcelona, Spain, as well as a Master’s degree in Education and a postgraduate degree in Surface Design from the Federal University of Santa Maria, Brazil, where she also completed her Bachelor’s and Teaching degrees in Visual Arts. A member of the women artist collective Gomagroupa (BR) and a researcher with the Dissident Experiences in Visual Arts group at the Federal University of Amapá (BR), Lóss has exhibited her work in Brazil, the United States, Mexico, and Europe. Rooted in textile-based practices, her work explores memory, displacement, and the reinvention of identities through the ritualistic dimensions of craft. By collecting and reworking seemingly insignificant materials, she creates sensorial objects, performances, photographs, videos, and installations that weave fictional territories, embody impossible bodies, and reflect on the transformative power of migration and belonging.
