Artist Profile

Madikotsi "Mummy" Khumalo is a South African multidisciplinary artist, printmaker, and animator based in Johannesburg. Born in Sebokeng in the Vaal Triangle, her practice is deeply informed by themes of female strength, resilience, and identity, reflecting her own upbringing and lived experience. After studying entrepreneurship at the Vaal University of Technology, she completed professional printmaking training at Artist Proof Studio and has continued to expand her practice through animation studies at the Tshimologong Digital Innovation Precinct. Alongside her artistic work, she serves as a part-time art docent at the Wits Art Museum. Khumalo has exhibited widely in South Africa, including at the Johannesburg Art Fair and in exhibitions with Strauss & Co and Artist Proof Studio, developing a practice that bridges traditional printmaking with contemporary visual storytelling.
