Nina Turok Shapiro, based in Cape Town, South Africa, explores nostalgia and memory through her experience as a second-generation South African in the Jewish diaspora. Her work, combining performative photography, silk-screen printing, color selection, and video art, reimagines her family archives to navigate the liminality of diasporic identity. Drawing from oral histories and family photographs, she embodies archetypes and uses AI technology to question the nature of memory and the relationship between past, present, and future, ultimately seeking to renegotiate her identity through personal artifacts and fragmented narratives. She graduated from Michaelis School of Fine Art in 2023, specializing in printmaking, photography, and fine art.
