RaeAnn MacDonagh

Artist Profile

RaeAnn MacDonagh
Visually impaired abstract artist
RaeAnn MacDonagh is a visually impaired abstract artist based in Raleigh, NC, whose work is deeply shaped by her lived experience with optic atrophy and cone/rod dystrophy. Born legally blind due to a rare genetic mutation, RaeAnn has spent her life transforming limitations into creative power. After earning a Bachelor's Degree in Arts and Humanities from Michigan State University on a full scholarship, she began painting with acrylics—until a vision decline in 2016 inspired a powerful shift toward fluid, abstract expression. Now working with inks and high-flow mediums, her art embodies energy, movement, and emotion, guided by intuition and fueled by coffee, sage, and loud music. RaeAnn is also a passionate teacher, advocate, and mother, dedicated to accessibility in the arts and creating opportunities for marginalized communities. Her dream is to build a sustainable art career that supports her family and empowers others through inclusive creative expression.
