Artist Profile

Rayan Khalil
Sudanese visual artist based in Doha
Rayan Khalil is a Sudanese visual artist known for her masterful use of acrylics and watercolours. Born in Port Sudan and raised between Moscow and Khartoum, she developed an early passion for art, drawing inspiration from the rich cultural contrasts that shaped her upbringing. Originally trained in architecture—a discipline she regards as an art form in itself—Rayan holds a master’s degree in architecture from the University of Khartoum, along with an art diploma from the Khartoum Arts Center, where she refined her technical and conceptual skills under experienced mentors. Her practice blends realism with abstract elements, resulting in works that are both visually compelling and emotionally resonant. Deeply influenced by Sudanese culture and contemporary artistic approaches, she explores light, shadow, and intricate detail across portraiture and still life, while her training in graphite and watercolour techniques allows her to fully expand the expressive potential of her chosen mediums.
