Artist Profile

Riley Axon is a South African multi-disciplinary artist whose practice explores themes of identity, expression, and human connection through an innovative and experimental approach to contemporary art. Working across multiple media, Axon creates visually compelling works that challenge conventional boundaries between art, design, and personal narrative. Driven by curiosity and a desire to provoke dialogue, their work invites viewers to engage with questions of selfhood, perception, and belonging while fostering deeply personal interpretations. Recognised as one of the Design Indaba Emerging Creatives of 2023, Axon has rapidly established a presence within the contemporary art scene. In the same year, they presented a solo showcase at Decorex Johannesburg and have since exhibited in group exhibitions with galleries in Johannesburg and Cape Town. Their collaborative practice has also extended into the design sphere, including a notable project at the Cape Town Furniture Fair in 2024. Through an evolving body of work that bridges disciplines and perspectives, Axon continues to position themselves as a distinctive emerging voice in contemporary South African art.
