Artist Profile
Rufus Punton
Painter and printmaker based in Australia
Rufus Punton (b. 2004, Australia) is a painter and printmaker whose practice explores memory, nostalgia, and the emotional resonance of rural life. Drawing inspiration from vintage family photographs documenting the Victorian countryside between the 1940s and 1960s, he reinterprets personal and collective histories through painting and printmaking. His work investigates the instability of memory and the ways in which paint, as both medium and material, can evoke longing, absence, and psychological depth. Through layered surfaces, material experimentation, colour, and compositional strategies, Punton creates atmospheric works that blur the boundaries between documentation and recollection, inviting reflection on the emotional complexities of the human condition. He completed a Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) with Distinction at RMIT University in 2025 and is currently undertaking a Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) (Honours) at the same institution.
