Samarr Collins

Artist Profile

Samarr Collins
Self-taught artist from the USA
Samarr Collins is a Detroit-born multidisciplinary artist whose work champions creative liberation and cultural storytelling through accessible, community-rooted art. Drawing from early experiences of exclusion and erasure in both education and society, Samarr found refuge in YouTube tutorials, family support, and ancestral memory—igniting a journey of self-taught artistry rooted in resistance, healing, and pride. Their practice challenges traditional art world hierarchies by rejecting commodification in favor of generational value: offering original works meant to become heirlooms, not status symbols. With influences ranging from Frantz Fanon to Angela Davis, Samarr’s pieces confront systemic silencing while uplifting Black narratives, personal truth, and communal resilience.
