Sophia Gibbins is a 17-year-old student with remarkable artistic skills and a powerful voice. Through her art, Gibbins expresses her emotions and perspectives on a range of issues, including women’s rights, her chronic illness (Crohn’s disease), and the pandemic. Her painting, “Reach,” received a Scholastic Gold Award and was exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Of Brazilian and English heritage, and also passionate about fashion, Gibbins will soon graduate from Edward R. Murrow High School (Jean-Michel Basquiat’s alma mater) and embark on an undergraduate program in the Arts, with major art schools vying for her talent.
