Soukaina Joual

Artist Profile

Soukaina Joual
Moroccan multidisciplinary artist
Soukaina Joual is a Moroccan multidisciplinary artist and graduate of the National Institute of Fine Arts in Tetouan (2011). Her practice centers on the body as a site of tension, transformation, and ideological inquiry, exploring how physical presence reflects shifting dynamics of identity, belonging, and difference. Joual approaches the body from multiple perspectives—examining its mutations, its entanglement with personal and collective histories, and its capacity to host debates around race, gender, and sexuality. In her work, the body becomes both myth and metaphor, a historical form reframed through a contemporary lens. Moving fluidly between visibility and invisibility, presence and absence, she blurs boundaries between public and private space, individual and community, interior and exterior, often situating her projects at the threshold between artistic intervention and civic engagement. Through this layered approach, Joual interrogates how bodies are socially, politically, and representationally produced, seeking to articulate images that are at once deeply personal and universally resonant.
