Artist Profile

Sylvain Longpré is a Canadian sculptor whose practice transforms discarded bicycles into imaginative hybrid creatures that blur the boundaries between animal and machine. Through his concept of “cyclodermy,” Longpré salvages broken bicycle parts and reassembles them into sculptural forms, giving discarded objects a new identity and narrative life. Working entirely with recovered materials, his practice is rooted in circular making and responsible consumption while remaining attentive to the human stories and personalities embodied in everyday objects. His project Le Bestiaire des Cyclodermistes, a public art installation in Trois-Rivières, reflects his commitment to transforming waste into expressive, thought-provoking sculpture.
