Tayhe Munsamy
South African multidisciplinary artist based in London
Tayhe Munsamy is a multidisciplinary artist born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa, currently based in London. A graduate of Goldsmiths, University of London, she holds a BA in Fine Art and History of Art (First-Class Honours, 2020) and a Master’s in Contemporary Art Theory (Distinction, 2024). Her practice operates within speculative thinking, fictioning, mythology, and folklore, weaving together her identity as a mixed-race woman with narratives drawn from Coloured and Indian communities in South Africa. Through painting, performance, digital media, and writing, she blends cultural specificity and historical archives with fictional elements to explore themes of creation, ancestral memory, womanhood, survival, and care. Her recent research examines food spaces as sites of resistance and intergenerational knowledge during Apartheid, further deepening her exploration of personal and collective histories.
