Tomoya Nakano is a contemporary Japanese artist whose practice has been shaped by his experiences living in Toronto and New York, where he explored art, photography, music, and culture. Now based in Japan, with studios in Tokyo and Yokohama, he works across abstract portraiture, animals, landscapes, mixed media, and abstract flowers. His acclaimed Abstract Portrait series explores human presence through abstraction, combining layered colors and distinctive impasto techniques to express the inner energy, character, and emotional vitality of his subjects. Nakano’s textured and expressive paintings invite viewers to experience portraiture from multiple perspectives and are held in private collections internationally, including in the United States, United Kingdom, France, Canada, China, and Switzerland.
