Victoria Iungerich received her BA in Studio Practice from the University of California, San Diego in 2015. Iungerich creates work that often uses materials and techniques strongly associated with the feminine crafts and occupations, which are tied to her experience growing up in Ukraine. Victoria’s work fuses the physical and psychological. The seeming simplicity of the surfaces is abstractions of skin, scarred with stitched memories. The body and the memories are connected through symbols composed of the material’s quality, crude hand-craftsmanship, and abstraction. The artist works with materials and techniques that are traditionally gender-specific: fabric and metal, thread and wire.
