Sudan-born artist based in Kenya
Waleed Mohammed (b. 2000, Khartoum, Sudan) is a visual artist based in Nairobi, Kenya, whose practice explores themes of identity, memory, and cultural transformation. Working across painting and mixed media, he reconstructs archival imagery and personal histories to examine the layered narratives of migration and displacement that shape contemporary Sudanese experience. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fine and Applied Arts (Painting Department) from the Sudan University of Science and Technology and held his first solo exhibition in Khartoum in 2022. Waleed has participated in group exhibitions across Sudan, Kenya, Spain, Germany, Portugal, the United States, and Egypt. In 2024, he was awarded the MRI Fund for Artists Under Risk by the Goethe-Institut in Nairobi. Currently working from his studio in Nairobi, he is also co-founding a Sudanese art collective dedicated to fostering artistic exchange and community engagement.
