Born in Zimbabwe in 1996 and currently based in South Africa, Wisdom Chitembetembe is a self-taught visual practitioner whose work is deeply rooted in lived experience and community narratives. Working primarily on paper, he uses drawing and painting with charcoal, oil pastels, and mixed media, combining monochrome and vivid palettes to depict everyday life in South African urban spaces with vulnerability and optimism. His practice functions as both personal testimony and collective storytelling, reflecting the emotions, struggles, and resilience of the people and environments that surround him. Through bold visual language and intimate compositions, he seeks not only to express his own journey but also to educate, inspire, motivate, and uplift, fostering empathy and connection while celebrating the beauty and complexity of the human spirit.
