Yining Lee
Taiwanese visual artist based in the US
Yining Lee is a Taiwanese visual artist based in Boston whose interdisciplinary practice spans painting and ceramics, exploring themes of memory, solitude, healing, and displacement. Lee earned a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and is completing an MFA at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University. Working primarily with acrylic, gouache, and ceramic forms, Lee creates immersive and emotionally charged environments that transform personal narratives into broader reflections on migration, belonging, and cross-cultural identity. Their paintings exist in a space between dream and reality, employing dimly lit atmospheres, floating imagery, and subtle tonal transitions to evoke emotional ambiguity and quiet introspection. Extending these themes into sculpture and ceramics, Lee imbues everyday objects with symbolic resonance: pearls become metaphors for accumulated and unspoken emotions, plants suggest the passage of time, and travel-related forms speak to longing and movement across cultures. Through contemplative imagery and tactile sensitivity, Yining Lee’s work invites viewers into intimate spaces shaped by memory, transition, and emotional endurance.
