Artist Profile
Zayd Mia
Multimedia artist based in Canada
Zayd Mia is a multimedia artist based in Coquitlam, working on the unceded territory of the Kwikwetlem First Nation. Their interdisciplinary practice spans new media, painting, and performance art, exploring themes of embodiment, ritual, grief, death, and purification through deeply personal and culturally layered perspectives. Drawing from their experiences as a queer person of South Asian heritage, Zayd Mia investigates the ways identity, spirituality, and the body intersect within both contemporary life and religious traditions. Their work often engages with concepts of pollution and purgation, transforming emotional and ceremonial experiences into immersive visual and performative forms. Through a practice grounded in introspection and social awareness, Mia creates spaces that challenge conventional boundaries between vulnerability, memory, and transformation. Currently completing a BFA, they also aspire to pursue a career in elementary art education, fostering creativity and critical expression in future generations.
