BE OPEN Art is thrilled to announce Reem Aljeally as the winner of January’s Regional Artist of the Month, marking the beginning of the Northeastern Africa stage of its 2026 global art competition. This stage, which runs from January through April, celebrates emerging talent from across Northeastern Africa, with a focus on artists from Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia, Sudan, Libya, Egypt, and Madagascar.
Aljeally, a visual artist and curator from Sudan, is known for her captivating works that blend painting, installation, and printmaking, often centered on the portrayal of young women alongside symbolic motifs like plants and cats. Her background in architecture deeply informs her practice, where she engages with ideas of movement, memory, and the emotional resonance of spaces.
As one of four monthly winners in this regional stage, Reem Aljeally joins the competition for the title of Regional Winner of Northeastern Africa, to be announced at the end of April. The final regional winner will receive a €500 cash prize and gain increased global visibility through the BE OPEN Art platform. This initiative provides emerging artists the opportunity to share their work with a wider audience, fostering greater cultural exchange and understanding across borders.
The BE OPEN Regional Art competition continues to fulfill its mission of supporting young and emerging artists from all corners of the world. By spotlighting diverse creative voices and facilitating international recognition, BE OPEN Art promotes artistic innovation, global dialogue, and the preservation of regional identities through contemporary art.
