BE OPEN Art is pleased to announce Joseph Christian Ekom-Obong as the Artist of the Month for January 2026, in recognition of his compelling artistic practice and his thoughtful engagement with African identity, history, and self-expression.
Joseph Christian Ekom-Obong is a Nigerian expressionistic artist working primarily in painting and drawing. He holds an NCE in Fine and Applied Arts from the Federal College of Education, Osiele, and a Bachelor’s degree in Fine and Industrial Arts from the University of Uyo. His work is deeply informed by reflections on the marginalization experienced by Africans due to skin tone, while simultaneously celebrating the beauty, resilience, and cultural richness of the continent.
