The Art Limitless programme within the BE OPEN Art online gallery has announced Anna Kouvelas as the July 2026 monthly winner, recognising her thoughtful textile-based practice that explores identity, memory, and materiality through sustainable approaches to making.
Based in Naarm/Melbourne, Kouvelas is an emerging multidisciplinary artist whose work draws on personal experiences of queerness and the enduring influence of feminist thought. Working predominantly with found, reclaimed, and repurposed materials, she employs weaving, stitching, assemblage, and sculptural interventions to transform discarded objects into evocative artworks. Her practice reflects a commitment to sustainability while examining the relationships between personal history, collective memory, and place. Kouvelas holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Sculpture) with First Class Honours from RMIT University and is currently undertaking a Master of Art Curatorship at the University of Melbourne, bringing together artistic and curatorial perspectives in her evolving practice.
Throughout 2026, BE OPEN continues to highlight artists whose work reflects sustainable approaches to artistic practice. Each month, a winning artist is selected and featured in the online gallery, and at the end of the year, three artists will be chosen from the monthly winners by members of the BE OPEN community to receive monetary awards and increased international visibility from the BE OPEN Foundation.
