BE OPEN Art is happy to announce that Marcel Tchopwe, a young artist from Cameroon passionate about drawing and painting, has been selected the Regional Artist of the month (October) by the highest number of votes of BE OPEN Art online gallery visitors.
The fourth stage of the programme this year covers the countries of Central Africa: Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo Republic – Brazzaville, Democratic Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, São Tomé and Principe.
The stage will last three months, and at the end of the stage, one of the monthly winners will become the Artist of the Region, based on the amount of votes by the public and the BE OPEN art community members.
Marcel has become the first of the three candidates to the title and the 500 euros prize.
In 2014, Marcel interrupted his studies in geoscience and environment at the University of Ngaoundéré to join the Institute of Fine Arts of the University of Douala in Nkongsamba (IBA). Marcel’s work revolves around psychological portraiture in relation to social unease, where he explores emotions and human complexity. Whether through painting, drawing, or installations, social discomfort serves as a pretext for him to journey through the inner world of his subjects.
